Milling and repaving of McMillan Street, Turner Place and Curran Street will commence on May 8 and will require some bus rerouting and detours. Milling creates less stress on the road foundation and is completed more quickly than completely removing layers of asphalt.
This project will require bus rerouting, as well as alternate parking for some campus users throughout the month of May. The following streets will be closed during this period: McMillan Street (from 6th Street to Turner Place), Turner Place, and Curran Street (from Turner Place to 8th Street). 6th Street will be opened up to two-way traffic during this time frame.
Project Results:
- New asphalt for smoother street surfaces
- Improved ADA access along sidewalks
- New curbing and striping
CONSTRUCTION DETAILS:
- Start Date: May 8, 2017
- Anticipated End Date: Mid June, 2017
- Normal working hours: 7am-5pm.
Campus Detours or Interruptions:
Stinger Bus: Due to Housing move out activities, Georgia Tech Stinger buses (Red and Blue routes) will be rerouted from this area beginning May 1, and until the roads reopen in late May. The closest Stinger bus stops during this time will be at the intersection of Ferst Drive and Hemphill Avenue.
Detours: Beginning May 22, McMillan Street, Turner Place, and Curran Street will be closed to thru traffic. 6th Street will remain open and will accommodate two-way vehicular traffic. Access to this area will be limited to emergency and service vehicles.
